High bay lighting are used to illuminate industrial areas with higher ceiling height anywhere from 20 to 40 feet. They are also a preferred choice of lighting for places that require to be illuminated from a distance of 20 feet or above. In spite being installed at a distance from the line of vision, they provide light uniformity and low glare.
High Bay metal halide lights are still a popular way to light large areas where the ceiling height is more robust. These areas usually have ceiling heights of anywhere from 18 to 40 feet. High bays are used to spread the beam of light as far down and out from the lighting fixture as possible with the use of a reflector and high output lamps and ballasts. These lighting fixtures themselves usually come with reflector widths of 16 to 22 inches and either aluminum or specular acrylic, which both have their benefits and drawbacks. First, the 16 inch reflector has a more narrow beam angle, pushing the light down to the floor in a smaller pattern and does not have the cast that the 22 inch reflector has on spreading the light out and pushing it down to the floor covering more ground at lower ceiling heights. With the aluminum reflector options, the fixture focuses 100 percent of the light right down to the floor where it is needed to illuminate the areas. The acrylic mainly focuses on average 85 percent of the light to the floor and then 15 percent up to illuminate the ceiling. Usually these fixtures don't come with a lens but one is available on request as well as wire guards for high impact areas. Many high bays come in higher wattages to illuminate the areas with high lighting levels. These high bays are great for lighting warehouses, factories, retail stores, auto repair garages and many more areas with a lot of floor space. The most common wattages for high bays are going to be 250, 320, 400, 750 and 1000 watts.
